Northern ice roads opening for traffic

Feb 5, 2025 | 2:27 PM

Ice roads in the Far North are starting to open for traffic.

According to an email to larongeNOW from the Ministry of Highways, the Shasko Bay to Fond-Du-Lac ice road recently opened with work continuing on the remaining northern Saskatchewan ice roads.

Typically, northern ice roads open around mid-February, but that can also vary considerably each year because of weather. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways continually monitors the weather, which can change often and rapidly in the province.

Motorists should check the Highway Hotline for the status of ice roads, allowable safe weights and overall route to plan their journey before heading out.
