New Chester’s Chicken in Air Ronge includes drive-thru

Apr 18, 2018 | 12:00 PM

A new Chester`s Chicken outlet opening in Air Ronge next week will feature the village’s first drive-thru service.

That’s according to business owner Robin Louis, who will operate the location along with his wife, Angie, when it officially opens to the public April 23. The couple currently run the A & R Laundromat on Husky Ave., which will also be the site of the new fast food restaurant. Robin Louis said the laundromat isn’t as busy as it used to be, so they decided to convert half of the space into an eating establishment.

“There will be no sit-in restaurant and it will all be strictly takeout,” he said. “The drive-thru [won’t be open] until a later date. I don`t know when, but it’s just so muddy in the back where the road is.”

If the business is busy from the start, Louis said he will begin a delivery service immediately. When the drive-thru does open, he said he will also expand his menu to include breakfast items like egg sandwiches with bacon, sausage, and chicken. The regular menu will be limited to family meals, kebobs, chicken tenders, wedges, biscuits, and sides.

Louis said he received all the equipment for the restaurant back in November, but the space needed extensive renovations before it could be opened. The floor was torn up to install sewer and drainage pipes, walls were built, the kitchen was completed and the drive-thru window was installed. Louis said he decided to open the Chester’s location because people are familiar with the outlet in Stanley Mission, as well as the former spot at the Air Ronge Co-op Gas Bar.

“Everyone likes chicken,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from.”
