Keethanow Gas Bar moves into former Kathy’s Korner location
An iconic building in the tri-communities will once again become a place of business as the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Keethanow Gas Bar officially opens in the space Friday.
Located along Highway 2 near the Montreal River, the unique log structure was previously the site of Kathy’s Korner before it permanently closed some time ago. According to Vincent Van de Kamp, the general manager of Keethanow Group of Businesses, renovations on the building began several months ago both inside and out.
“The interior has been completely revamped,” he said. “We refurbished all the logs and put in new logs where necessary. There’s new flooring, heating, ventilation, plumbing and wiring. It’s a complete overhaul.”
As the gas bar was formerly located in a small section of Keethanow Bingo North about a kilometer away, Van de Kamp noted there will be new services such as a full coffee bar, along with food items like soup, chili, pizza and wings. The new store will also feature a selection of grocery items, as well as typical confectionary products like pop and chips. Van de Kamp added the fuel stations outside have also been upgraded and regular gas, premium and diesel will all be available.
