Nipawin man charged with threatening Justin Trudeau

A Nipawin man is facing criminal charges after allegedly threatening the Prime Minister.

RCMP said in a release Thursday that the threats were made during a call to an employee at a Canadian government agency Feb. 12. The caller threatened to shoot Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and blow up the Parliament buildings.

The information was forwarded to Nipawin RCMP, which began an investigation.

On Feb. 27, officers from the Nipawin RCMP arrested 52-year-old David Petersen. Petersen has been charged with uttering threats against the Prime Minister and uttering threats against Parliament.

Petersen will appear in provincial court in Nipawin March 6, and the Saskatchewan National Security Enforcement Section will continue to investigate.

Police say there has been no contact between Petersen and the PM.
