Jolibois seeking second term in House of Commons

With a federal election coming this fall, Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River NDP MP Georgina Jolibois announced she will seek the NDP nomination for the riding.

“What I’m observing more and more, the Liberals continually ignore the North and not commit to the North unless pressure is put on them,” she said. “Myself and the team who I work with were able to raise many, many, many concerns regarding the mid-provinces, especially northern Saskatchewan.”

Since being elected to the House of Commons for her first term back in 2016, Jolibois said she has some worthy accomplishments. In 2018 she won a Parliamentarian of the Year award for best representing constituents. Jolibois received the award because other MPs in the House of Commons believed she deserved it and voted for her to win.

Jolibois stated another success from her first term is the support she received to declare another statutory holiday. She said the bill will receive its third and final reading March 20.

“I will continue to visit communities and I will reach out,” Jolibois said. “My office will continue to work with constituents and we will do our part, so the North is continually heard.”

Jolibois also expressed concerns about the ongoings between SNC-Lavalin, the Liberals, as well as the former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould. She said it concerns her the government would consider intervening in a criminal case to allow the company to pay a fine instead of face charges.

“An accomplished woman with credentials and experience has been treated unfairly,” Jolibois said. “Many Indigenous people and Canadians across Canada are unhappy with that.”
