Impaired driving investigation leads to officer assault, suspect escaping custody

Two arrests in Spiritwood became one after a suspect escaped custody last night.
At 8:20 p.m. on Thursday night, Spiritwood RCMP responded to a call of an impaired driver on the Pelican Lake First Nation. When members attended, they located the suspect and his vehicle.
As they attempted to arrest the man, a second suspect approached police and assaulted an officer. He was subsequently arrested and placed in the police cruiser.
