The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) is announcing the passing of Elder Jacob Ratt.

Ratt served with LLRIB for 48 years as an employee, council member and Council of Elders. According to a media release, he began his service with the band in 1971 as a carpenter and moved into other roles such as housing supervisor and eventually the housing coordinator. His contributions were seen as a vital part of the success of the LLRIB Housing Department.

Between 1971 and 1995, Ratt served as a band councillor for 16 years and was appointed by LLRIB leadership to the Council of Elders for La Ronge 156 and 156B in July 2009. He dedicated himself to his family, community and continued to do so after his retirement in March 2016.

“The LLRIB leadership thanks Elder Jacob Ratt for his contributions and commitment to the LLRIB and membership,” the release states. “The leadership also wishes to send sincere condolences and prayers to Jacob’s wife Alice of 53 years and his family, friends and many colleagues who are mourning in his loss.”
