Aug 6, 2019 | 1:24 PM

August is going to be a busy month for the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

The club will be hosting a four-day Summer Hockey School between Aug. 26 to 29 at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. It’s being coached by Ice Wolves Head Coach Kevin Kaminski, Associate Head Coach Gaelan Patterson and Condition Coach Travis Hegland. Kaminski stated the school will include on-ice instruction, fundamentals such as powerskating, puckhandling, shooting and passing, as well as team building sessions.

“It’s about meeting some of the Ice Wolves and getting the community together with the players and organization,” he said. “It’s a great hockey school I have been doing for a long time. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The school is also open to players of all skill levels and participants will be divided according to their age and experience. Instruction will be provided from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and those between the ages of five and 17 are welcome to join. Kaminski noted attendees will be pushed as intensely as they want to be, adding he hopes everyone will leave as better hockey players and people.

Immediately following the school’s conclusion on Aug. 29, the Ice Wolves will he holding its main camp for prospective players. Kaminski mentioned up to 90 players could be present for the camp to try make it on to the roster for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

“We’re having a big camp because there are a lot of kids who are available who we think can better our team,” he said. “I expect a very intense and competitive camp because that’s how we are going play all year around. They better bring it, otherwise they won’t be an Ice Wolf.”

The regular season for the team begins Sept. 13 when the Ice Wolves travel to Flin Flon to take on the Bombers. The home-opener will be Sept. 14 when the Bombers travel to La Ronge. Both games have a 7:30 p.m. start time.
