La Ronge day care scene of multiple acts of vandalism
The executive director of La Ronge Child Care Cooperative is frustrated by multiple instances of vandalism in recent weeks.
So far this summer, Daisy Kereluk stated there have been three instances where vandals have targeted outdoor furniture, toys, the garden or anything else the children have created in the yard. While she noted it has been an ongoing issue for years, the last month has been particularly bad with the latest incident occurring over the Saskatchewan Day long weekend.
“I had returned from the city on Monday and I was coming to drop off a few supplies I had purchased, and I came and everything was completely damaged as far as materials in the yard, flowers and pots being tipped over,” Kereluk said.
Kereluk stated herself and educators at the day care are becoming frustrated as the incidents are making it difficult to create a fun learning environment for the children. She noted there are also safety issues that go along with the vandalism as sometimes the water hose has been left on all night or weekend and the yard is flooded, or broken toys become dangerous. The children have also been impacted by the destruction, Kereluk said, as they understand what’s happened.
