NLSD busy with maintenance projects this summer
When it comes to upkeep and maintenance, the Northern Lights School Division is ready to welcome students back to class next month.
That’s according to Superintendent of Facilities Doug Hrycuik, who stated employees have been busy this summer making sure issues have been addressed at all 22 schools. While there were no notably expensive projects since classes ended in June, he added there’s been a lot of hidden maintenance people don’t typically see.
“We’ve been doing a lot of internal maintenance, flooring, painting and sprucing up the buildings to make them look homey and clean,” he said. “We’re taking care of issues that have been ongoing. Maintenance issues is our biggest concern.”
Some of the work so far this summer has included patchwork on leaking roofs and ensuring heating systems are ready for winter. Hrycuik mentioned crews have been busy replacing glycol in the heating systems at the head office and Gordon Denny Community to a product that’s non-toxic, with additional plans to use the new fluid at the Pre-Cam Community School as well.
