Break and enter at NorthSask Special Needs results in big losses

Computers, laptops and iPads were stolen after NorthSask Special Needs along La Ronge Ave. was broken into over the weekend.

According to Executive Director Deri Ann Ratt, a witness saw people breaking into the building early Saturday morning around 6:30 a.m. She stated a variety of electronics were stolen.

A report was made with the La Ronge RCMP and she urges anyone with information to contact them.

“It really puts us out and it’s unfortunate because we are a non-profit,” Ratt said. “I’m not really worried about the laptops themselves; I’m worried about the content that might possibly get out.”

NorthSask Special Needs operates a day program in La Ronge, and manages residential care units for cognitively disabled adults. Ratt noted it’s not the first time the organization was targeted as they were broken into at a former location. At the time they didn’t lose much because renovations were underway at the time.

La Ronge RCMP Acting Staff Sgt. Josh Hallett confirmed a building on the 400 block of La Ronge Ave. did experience a break and enter during the weekend and officers are investigating.

“I think more organizations putting up security cameras and all coming together when something happens to help each other would be beneficial,” Ratt said. “It’s not really a financial hit. We need to increase security and keep these participants safe; make them feel safe again.”
