La Ronge Arts Council presents annual concert series

Five upcoming live musical shows in the tri-communities are meant to entertain residents through some of the coldest months.

Two concert series, including one hosted by the La Ronge Arts Council, will bring a variety of talent into the region. Through a partnership with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils, three shows will be held with the first scheduled for Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Eagle Point Event Centre. It will include a performance by Nick Earle and Chris Kirby, who are known for acoustic blues, high-level guitar playing and soulful vocals.

“It’s really just to get more live music in La Ronge,” local arts council member Alexis Reichert said. “We hope the more people who show up for the concerts, the more concerts we can book. This is a way to just kind of add some art and music and vibrancy to a winter that can seem long for some people.”

The two other shows organized by the arts council will be Celeigh Cardinal on Jan. 10 at La Ronge’s Churchill Community High School and Madison Violet on March 7 at the Elks Hall in Air Ronge. Cardinal is a multi-award-winning Métis singer and songwriter from Alberta, while Madison Violet is an award-winning folk/Americana duo who have been nominated for a Juno award.

The Arts Council Concert Series is free for anyone 17 and under with regular tickets costing $25. Tickets can be purchased at the Woodlands and Waterways Regional Visitor Centre, CONEXUS Credit Union, at the door or online at eventbrite.com.

There are two remaining shows in The House Concert Series, which Reichert stated are organized by other volunteers and hosted out of private homes. The two shows are Stephanie Rose on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. and Jeffery Straker on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. Both shows are hosted by Dara Schindelka.

“We really want to get young people out to experience live music whether they can afford to pay for a ticket or not,” Reichert said. “We just want people to come out, and be able to dance and be inspired.”

The local art council has also set a date for the 2020 Napatak Ramble auditions for March 13 at the Eagle Point Event Centre. Tickets for that event will be available at the door.
