CCHS cross-country runners complete first annual run-a-thon
The Churchill Community High School cross-country running team will be purchasing new long-sleeved shirts and jackets after the successful completion of their run-a-thon fundraiser.
The event occurred Oct. 27 at the Don Allen Trails where eight members of the team ran for a combined time of more than 900 minutes or a distance over 80 kilometers. According to Coach Kandice Harrington, for every $2 raised, the team had to run for one minute. In total, they raised $1,522 and were required to run for only 761 minutes.
“Since we are a running team, we thought we could tie our sport into our fundraising, so that’s how we came up with the idea,” she said. “We came up with the idea together as a team when we went on our provincials trip on Oct. 12”
In order to raise funds, members of the team went door-to-door, asked for donations from family and friends, and set up a table at the Lakeland Country Food Store in La Ronge. Harrington also mentioned half of the funds raised will be donated to the Lac La Ronge Food Bank, so next week the team will deliver a cheque for $761 to the organization.
