Memorial service set for Meadow Lake paramedic killed in collision near Beauval

Leigh Schroeder died doing what he loved to do — serving others.

That is what the 28-year-old’s family said in an obituary published Wednesday about the paramedic from Meadow Lake who died during a collision south of Beauval on Oct. 25. His memorial service will take place in Regina on Sunday.

Schroeder was one of three killed on Highway 155 when a truck and an ambulance collided. It also claimed the lives of two children – one-year-old Kinzey Iron-Coulineur and 14-year-old Jerome Coulineur.

Two other people in the truck and the other person in the ambulance, which was responding to another collision, were treated in hospital for their injuries.

“He was settling into the community of Meadow Lake and called it home,” the family wrote in the obituary. He was previously trained as a journeyman electrician.

His family remembers him as a devoted son, brother, and friend.

Schroeder enjoyed camping with his friends and family, serving at Katepwa Lake Camp, working at the Rosom family farm, driving and upgrading his Cummins Dodge, and gaming with his brothers and friends.

The family asked anyone who wants to make a donation to make it to the Katepwa Lake Camp.

The Association of Saskatchewan Paramedics offered sympathies and condolences to Schroeder’s family and that of Iron-Coulineur and Coulineur.

“We grieve and mourn at your side as we all begin our journey of healing together,” they wrote in a post on Facebook.

The group changed their profile photo to show Schroeder’s registration number until his service on Sunday.
