Sportsman Dinner, Comedy Night fundraisers coming up for the Ice Wolves
Residents of the tri-communities are invited to attend two of the La Ronge Ice Wolves largest fundraisers of the year.
The first event occurs Nov. 14 featuring a comedy night with Kelly Taylor, while the second event is the club’s annual Sportsman Dinner on Nov. 16 including NHL alumni Curtis Leschyshyn and Jeff Odgers. Leschyshyn has played more than 1,000 games and was part of Colorado Avalanche when the team won the Stanley Cup in 1996. Odgers has played more than 800 games and he played his final season in the NHL in 2003 with the Atlanta Thrashers.
“I think we need the whole community to come out and support us,” Ice Wolves Head Coach Kevin Kaminski said. “This is a big fundraiser for us. Without this fundraiser, maybe the team wouldn’t be operating. This is a huge weekend for us. There’s going to be a lot of fun and people are going to get to meet some hockey players.”
Kaminski invited Leschyshyn and Odgers to speak at the Sportsman Dinner because of his personal history with them and due to the fact both hockey players are from Saskatchewan. Leschyshyn is from Saskatoon and Odgers is from Spy Hill. With one coming from a village and the other from a larger city, combined with their time in the NHL, Kaminski believes the two men will have many stories to talk about.
