Major changes to La Ronge Canada Post includes new numbers for 200 customers

Changes are coming to the La Ronge Canada Post location.

That’s according to Postmaster Nikki Bernatchez, who stated everyone will be issued new keys after new mailboxes are installed between Nov. 22 and 23. The post office will be closed to the public during those days as the current boxes will be ripped from the walls and replaced with new ones.

“The smallest box everyone has now is what everyone will be getting,” she said, adding that’s in exception to three businesses which will have larger boxes because they receive an abundance of mail. “The new thing Canada Post has started doing is called a parcel compartment. If you get lots of little parcels in the mail, we will make use of the parcel compartment, so you don’t have to stand in line to get your parcel.”

The post office in La Ronge currently has close to 2,000 mailboxes and the change will increase that number by 300. There will be additional 14 parcel boxes added. Bernatchez stated that means all the larger mailboxes will be removed, resulting in the increased space for smaller boxes.

Anyone needing assistance is encouraged to ask staff about any questions they might have. Bernatchez also noted the switch over isn’t expected to lead to any job losses.

“With the increase in online shopping, the new parcel boxes will provide customers the opportunity to pick up their parcels that don’t require a signature or that don’t fit in their regular mailbox, without having to go to the retail counter and possibly wait in line,” a press release from Canada Post states. “Our customers’ mailing address or PO Box number will not change. Because of the reconfiguration of the mailboxes, some customers might find their mailbox in a different location.”
