The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) general election scheduled for March 30 has been postponed.

That’s according to a media release dated March 25, which states it has been postponed until such time the COVID-19 pandemic is under control and it is safe to hold the election. The motion to postpone the election was made by the LLRIB Elections Tribunal, a committee responsible for maintaining the integrity of the election, along with other duties.

“The most important factor considered in reaching this decision was the health and safety of every member of the LLRIB and, in particular, protecting our Elders and vulnerable members from the spread of COVID-19,” the release states. “It is clear that it is no longer advisable for members of the LLRIB to go to the polls to vote on March 30.”

It also mentions after closely monitoring the situation and recent recommendation from the LLRIB Emergency Control Group, all band members are asked to quarantine and stay at home with their family household. The releases added the LLRIB will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and will make announcements regarding the rescheduling of the election as soon as possible.
