‘The community is coming together’: Delivery service available for seniors, residents with medical conditions
La Ronge Community Programmer Avyn Koyl and a number of local groups are looking to help residents during these trying times.
Through a partnership with Men of the North, Lake Country Co-op, La Ronge Elks and the RCMP, she’s encouraging anyone who needs assistance to get a hold of her. Koyl or other volunteers are willing to pick up groceries, prescriptions or other items that might be needed.
“Of course, the COVID-19 is a dynamic situation, so it keeps changing every day [and] the phone calls keep changing every day,” Koyl said, adding she started the initiative March 19. “At first, the phone calls were just to inquire about what it’s all about and what kind of service would it be. Now, we’re actually bringing some groceries.”
The service is specifically for those 65 years old and up, residents who have compromised immune systems or have underlying medical conditions. Due to social distancing efforts, it could be difficult for those people to go to the store or pharmacy. Koyl noted the service is open to all residents of the tri-communities.
