Canadian Armed Forces assist in rescue of minor confined at Île-à-la-Crosse cabin
The Canadian Armed Forces were called in to rescue a female youth allegedly being held against her will at a cabin on Île-à-la-Crosse Lake.
That’s according to an RCMP press release, which stated the local Île-à-la-Crosse detachment received a complaint April 23 of the minor being held against her will for four days, approximately 10 kilometers from the village. Officers stated an initial report revealed the adult male responsible for the confinement had temporarily left the cabin to an unknown destination, and police made several patrols in Île-à-la-Crosse to locate him.
RCMP determined the only way to access the cabin would be by air since Île-à-la-Crosse Lake was covered in water and slush. The Canadian Armed Forces and the Saskatchewan Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called to assist.
In the early morning of April 24, two CH-146 Griffon helicopters from the Canadian Armed Forces transported ERT across the lake and landed next to the cabin. Police were able to secure the location and safely remove the youth. RCMP noted the youth had minor bruising and was safely transported back by helicopter to Île-à-la-Crosse.
