LLRIB sets requirements for upcoming election to prevent spread of COVID-19

Notice has been served to Lac La Ronge Indian Band voters about where, when and how they can cast a ballot in a variety of communities.

That’s according to a public notice released May 4, which states in-person voting can be done May 25 in Stanley Mission for three councillors at Rhonda Hardlotte Band Hall and La Ronge/Kitsaki for four councillors at Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.

All other polling stations for in-person voting will be May 26 and include Little Red River for two councillors at White Hall, Grandmother’s Bay for one councillors at the Band Hall, Morin Lake for one councillor at Charlie Halkett Memorial Band Hall, Sucker River for one councillor at the Band Hall.

In-person voting will also occur at Brabant Lake at the Community Hall and Prince Albert at the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre. No location has been arranged yet for those living in Saskatoon and in Pinehouse online voting will only be available.

Electronic voting will commence May 11 at 8 a.m. and close May 25 at midnight. Information for online voting will be posted and available on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community websites by May 8.

There are a number of restrictions on in-person voting including social distancing, limiting the number of people at a polling station, controlled entrances and exits, encouraging voters to bring their own pens or pencils, availability of hand sanitizer, no public washrooms at polling stations and discouraging voters from bringing children.

Staff will also be following safety procedures like using masks and gloves, washing hands on a frequent basis, availability of hand sanitizer and the creation of a barrier between voting staff and voters. Additional staff will be hired for cleaning and security.

The election could be cancelled if Lac La Ronge Indian Band communities are affected with COVID-19 or if there’s changes to Saskatchewan’s reopening plan.
