Patterson Park, school playgrounds open to public Friday

Jun 11, 2020 | 12:27 PM

With playgrounds and beaches open to the public starting Friday, the municipality has some rules residents need to follow.

While the beach in La Ronge’s Patterson Park will be open for swimming, the floating platform usually installed won’t be there this year. Change room facilities also won’t be available and residents are asked not to enter the area if they are exhibiting symptoms of illness. Personal items like equipment, towels, toys and food should not be shared with others and individuals are to supply their own table covers, cleaning supplies, hand hygiene supplies and other personal items.

“Only singles play for tennis and/or pickleball is permitted. No doubles,” a press release from the Town of La Ronge states. “Please avoid contacting nets, gates, fences and benches.”

As of June 15, the town office will also once again open to the public and precautionary measures will be in place to prevent the transmission of coronavirus. There will be protective barriers used at reception counters, social distancing markers will be on the floor and a doorbell will be used to gain access to the building. Only two people will be permitted entry at a time.

Access to the public washrooms also won’t be available, and cheques and debit will be the forms of payment available. In addition, there will be enhanced sanitization procedures occurring after each customer.

“All visits should be kept short with individuals not congregating or socializing with one another,” the release states. “Meetings with town employees will be by appointment only. Visitors [will] be required to sign into our facility.”

Playgrounds maintained by the Northern Lights School Division will also be reopened to the public. In a news release, the division reminding families visiting the playgrounds that they must still follow the public health orders in place with frequent hand washing recommended.
