La Ronge RCMP, Canadian Rangers find missing teenage boy

Jun 22, 2020 | 4:14 PM

La Ronge RCMP and Canadian Rangers came together to locate a missing 14-year-old boy.

According to an RCMP media release, the local detachment received a report of the missing teen just before 8 p.m. on June 19. The boy was reported to have been travelling across the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Bigstone Road, but had not been seen since 4 p.m. that day. The release noted family members made unsuccessful attempts to locate him, resulting in the Canadian Rangers and police assisting to search.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., a Canadian Ranger located the teen approximately three kilometers from where he had entered a forested area along Bigstone Road. The boy was reported to not have sustained any serious injuries and was taken to his family.

“We are fortunate to have an excellent partnership with the Canadian Rangers,” Acting La Ronge RCMP Staff Sgt. Josh Hallett said. “The Rangers have local expertise of the area and are able to gather a large number of searchers quickly. In this instance, the rangers were familiar with the wooded area.”

Hallett added it was critical the teen was located before dark, as he had no overnight supplies or equipment. He’s thankful for the successful outcome and wanted to acknowledge what a big support the rangers have been on this and many other searches in northern Saskatchewan.
