Some members of the Town of La Ronge council want to hire a director of municipal operations with an annual salary up to $135,000.

That’s according to a job listing posted two days ago, which stated town council is looking for someone to join the management team to assist in transitioning the newly created Municipal Operation Department into a cohesive unit. The ideal candidate should have experience in a senior management position and a reputation for getting things done.

“Reporting directly to the chief administrative officer (CAO), the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the recreation, public works, and municipal airport facility functions of our operation including long-term planning and implementing the strategic goals of council,” the job ad states.

The wage for the position is between $121,000 to $135,000 and the candidate should hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. The ad also calls for at least five years’ senior management experience in a local government setting.

It’s been about nine months since HMC Management Inc. was hired by council back in October 2019 to recruit a permanent CAO, which the town has been without since August 2018. At the time, La Ronge Mayor Ron Woytowich – who declined to be interviewed after telling larongeNOW he voted against the hiring of director of municipal operation during an in-camera session at the last regular council meeting – estimated the cost of a CAO to be $120,000 per year.

larongeNOW was unable to immediately confirm how councillors voted in regards to hiring a director of municipal operations. Dean Yaremchuk, the co-owner of HMC Management Inc. and acting town CAO, also declined to be interviewed.
