Coronavirus cases rising in region, potential exposure alerts for several La Ronge businesses

The number of positive coronavirus cases in the Far North East region, including La Ronge, continues to rise.

As of Oct. 16, there are 23 active cases in the region with 299 across the province. Earlier today, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) issued an alert for a number of businesses in La Ronge where a person or persons attended while likely infectious. Those locations include CIBC from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., between Oct. 1 to 3 and Oct. 5 to 10, KFC from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 to 6 and Oct. 10, A&R Laundromat between 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 4, as well as Co-op Food Store on Oct. 11 from 9:20 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to a letter to customers from Lake Country Co-op, an employee at the La Ronge Co-op Food Store tested positive for coronavirus. The employee is currently resting at home and is in good spirits.

“Our focus is the health and safety of our team members and customers in La Ronge and every location at Lake Country Co-op,” the letter states. “We have diligently sanitized our stores, exceeding the recommendations of SHA on the guidelines for public health since the pandemic started.”

As for the outbreak at Pre-Cam Community School, the Northern Lights School Division released a statement informing the public deep cleaning and sanitizing was performed Friday. The school was still closed Friday and an update will be provided over the weekend on the date of reopening.

“We greatly appreciate your patience and understand your concerns,” the letter notes. “We will try our best and do our due diligence to address your questions and concerns in a timely manner.”

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is reporting 19 confirmed cases in its communities with seven in Little Red River, six in Stanley Mission, four in Sucker River, and two on-reserve in La Ronge.
