Positive cases of coronavirus appear at Cumberland House school

Two cases of the coronavirus have been identified at Charlebois Community School in Cumberland House.

That’s according to a letter to community members from Northern Lights School Division, which notes staff is working closely with public health officials to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students.

Charlebois Community School in now at Level Four and is implementing learning continuity plans, which means transitioning to mandatory remote learning. The school division will continue to provide information to the public as it is available.

“We are asking everyone to be extra vigilant,” the letter states. “Protect yourself and your family at all times during the pandemic by following all public health recommendations like keeping social/physical distance of six feet, using a mask when around people, frequently washing your hands or using hand sanitizers and staying home if sick.”

The letter adds the health, safety and well-being of the school community remains the division’s top priority and staff are following sounds protocols aligned with expert health advice to ensure students are protected.

“If you/your child has any symptoms of COVID-19, please call HealthLine at 811 and remain at home,” the letter notes. “If medical attention is required, please call ahead to your health care provider. If it is an emergency requiring urgent attention, call 911.”

Charlebois Community School is the second Northern Lights School Division facility to identify active cases of coronavirus. La Ronge’s Pre-Cam Community School, where an outbreak was declared last week, reopened today.
