Slow start for voting in tri-communities

Oct 26, 2020 | 12:16 PM

It’s been a slow day so far at the polls in the tri-communities, but the number of voters is expected to increase throughout noon hour and after work.

That’s according to Elections Saskatchewan Senior Director Tim Kydd, who said some polls across the province have had a steady stream of voters while other locations have been quieter. He also noted he’s unsure if today will prove to be as popular as other forms of voting leading up to the election.

“We’ve already seen 250,000 people vote either through advanced voting or vote-by-mail,” Kydd said. “Those are five straight days of 40 hours of voting for convenience for people and one of them was Saturday. It could very well likely be people will go vote while it is convenient, while they are feeling healthy and not take the chance they might have a cold or a flu today, and not be able to vote.”

It’s forecasted to be bright and sunny throughout the day with the temperature reaching a high of -2 C in La Ronge. There are several locations in the tri-community where voting is taking place including Churchill Community High School, Elks Hall, Gordon Denny Community School, Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre, Kikinahk Friendship Centre and Pre-Cam Community School.
