Break from freezing temperatures expected Sunday
Environment Canada is forecasting above freezing temperatures for La Ronge this Sunday.
During the next few days, the temperature will rise from a high of -15 C on Thursday to 1 C on Sunday. Climate Change and Environment Canada Meteorologist Sara Hoffman explained the seasonal average for this time of year is -8 C.
“As the cold air moved south and east, we got a push in the southwest over B.C. of warm, moist air and that will spin up a low-pressure system in the northern Alberta area that … will drag more warm air northward,” she said. “Because it’s associated with a passing low-pressure system instead of a prolonged warm air event, it will be very short lived and, in fact, we are looking for a return to more seasonal temperatures by mid-week next week.”
The warm weather comes after weeks of frigid temperatures that were brought into Saskatchewan by an arctic ridge of cold air. Hoffman noted air entrenched itself over most of Western Canada before finally moving into the southern United States during the last couple of days where it is now wreaking havoc.
