Chance of flurries for La Ronge this week

Mar 8, 2021 | 1:24 PM

La Ronge is forecasted to have more seasonal temperatures this week after a short stretch of hot weather in recent days.

“It didn’t quite reach recording setting,” Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Kyle Fougere said. “The peak was around 9 C on Saturday. The records for this time of year are all between 12 C and 14 C, so it was quite a bit above normal, but not quite recording setting.”

Fougere explained normal temperatures around this time are -3 C during the day and a low of -17 C at night. While the temperature is expected to reach 1 C on Monday with a low of -15 C, it will drop further with highs of -4 C on Tuesday and -7 C on Wednesday. There’s also a 60 per cent chance of flurries on Wednesday.

Fougere doesn’t expect the low-pressure system to bring much snow and it is forecasted to be sunny between Thursday and Sunday.

“March is still a time of year where there can be some variability,” he said. “We can have these cold air outbreaks still come down from the North. I don’t think we’re quite done with winter weather yet, but hopefully as we get to the end of March, we’ll see temperatures improve.”

Fougere also mentioned in the coming weeks, residents will notice more strength in the sun. Even though he doesn’t believe the snow coming this week will melt much, he said people will notice wetter driving conditions.
