Lac La Ronge Indian Band member Nigel Bell, who goes by the stage name Nige B, will be releasing his first EP on all major music platforms Friday.

“It’s a six-track EP and it’s lo-fi hip hop,” he said. “I was always into metal and punk and stuff like that, so I always wanted to branch off into indie music and hip hop.”

Bell explained he has been producing music since the pandemic began by making beats and learning new skills as an artist. His forthcoming EP is entitled Circa 1990 after his birth year and includes a blend of sounds similar to what’s expected in older video game soundtracks.

“It’s really super chill,” Bell said about Circa 1990. “It’s a lot of fun and I think people who like lo-fi music is definitely going to enjoy this EP for sure.”

The EP is being released by Wristshot Records through the assistance of Juno award winner Erik Mehlsen. Wristshot Records is a record label and book publisher with the purpose of giving a platform to independent artists in Saskatchewan. Bell first met Mehlsen while he was teaching music in Stanley Mission a couple of years ago.

Bell, who has lived in La Ronge for most of his life, began playing music in 2003. He currently lives in Saskatoon where he has been for about a year. He owns a home studio where he records and produces his music.

He will also have more music coming out in the next six to eight weeks as a follow up to his initial EP. Llisteners can find his new album Friday on Apple Music, Spotify and more.

“I’m very happy,” Bell said about the EP’s pending release. “I always wanted to put something out as a solo artist and I finally had a chance to have total creative control.”
