New voting dates announced for Pelican Narrows and Sturgeon Landing

Members of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN) may know by the end of the month who their new chief and council are.

On Monday, head electoral officer Burke Ratte confirmed advance poll and regular poll dates for both Pelican Narrows and Sturgeon Landing reserve.

Election activities at Sturgeon Landing were postponed earlier this month due to an outbreak of COVID in the community. On April 15, a fresh vote was ordered for Pelican Narrows due to electoral officers counting ballots on election night, despite being advised not to. All other PBCN communities have voted.

The advance polls for Pelican Narrows have been scheduled for April 26 at Wapawikoscikan School (11 a.m. to 8 p.m.), and the regular poll will happen at the same location the following day (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.).

With respect to Sturgeon Landing Reserve, the advance poll and regular polls will happen on the same schedule at Namew Lake School.

Ratte indicated a ballot count will take place after 8 p.m. on April 27 for all PBCN communities. Results will be announced following the completion of the ballot count.
