Watch Out for Groggy, Hungry Bears
Black bears will be waking up from hibernation in many parts of Saskatchewan over the next several weeks.
As the weather warms up and people spend more time outdoors, we would like to remind you of some tips to avoid bear interactions:
• Manage your attractants, and never feed bears. Don’t leave out food, garbage, coolers, pet food or bird feeders;
• Make your presence known – when hiking or camping stay with the group, make noise, talk or turn on a radio;
• Be aware of your surroundings – remember you are in bear country;
• Carry bear spray when hiking;
• Keep your pets on leash;
• If a bear has been reported in the area, move to another location.
Bears are ruled by their stomachs and are intelligent animals, if they cannot find food, they will leave the area.
