Northlands College planning to resume in-classroom learning this fall

Northlands College intends to resume face-to-face learning this fall.

“As an increasing number of people in the province become fully vaccinated, we are working with the provincial government and other post-secondary institutions to return to face-to-face learning environments,” a media release from Northlands College states. “The Ministry of Health and chief medical officer supports institutions developing plans for a return to face-to-face learning for Fall 2021.”

In an interview with larongeNOW, Northlands College Vice-President Chandra McDougald said students and staff are highly encouraged to receive a vaccination before in-classroom learning begins. She noted its anticipated all staff will be returning to campus, along with adult basic education, and tech and trade students. Some university students could be back in class, as well.

The COVID-19 situation in Saskatchewan remains fluid and it will be important to remain flexible moving forward.

“We are still going to have some presence of online programming, but our hope is to have a larger student footprint on campus,” McDougald said.

Northlands College will continue to follow all mandatory public health orders and occupational health and safety. Administration will be following the province’s progress as identified in the Re-Opening Roadmap released earlier this week.

“We have learned many lessons over the last year and our students and staff have shown true resilience in unprecedented times,” the release states. “Some of the innovations used to ensure students could continue on their educational journey such as remote program delivery, will help Northlands College grow and thrive in the future.”
