Montgrand seeking re-election as MN-S regional representative

Leonard Montgrand believes electing a new regional representative for Northern Region Two would be detrimental to Métis Locals in the area.

He currently running for re-election in the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan election after serving four years as a regional representative. He explained there has been substantial changes during his first term and he’s been excited to witness all the momentum that has taken place.

“I wanted to serve another four years just to try to ensure I continue the momentum forward, that we have positive, social change in our communities, and we are seeing that now,” Montgrand said. “The Métis are getting recognized. People are starting to take notice of the Métis Nation.”

Montgrand is currently employed as executive director of the La Loche Friendship Centre. Through his job there, he’s been involved with social development, education, work skills, recreation and more. Montgrand noted his ability to write proposals and successfully secure grants is another reason people should vote for him.

“I’m a positive person and I try to build a team-building capacity,” he said. “I want to ensure at the end of the day, the Métis are able to move forward.”

Montgrand has extensive experience in volunteerism and has been involved with several boards and committees. Some of the organizations he’s been involved with include Gabriel Dumont Institute, SaskCulture, Saskatchewan Government Employees Union and Embracing Life. Montgrand holds a Grade 12 diploma, some post-secondary education and a certificate in administration.

Montgrand was born in La Loche, raised in Buffalo Narrows and moved back to La Loche about 25 years ago. He and his wife Edith have two children.

“I want to ensure people get out and practice their democratic rights,” Montgrand said. “I bring a lot to the table and I want to continue that momentum forward.”

Election day will be May 29 and voters in Northern Region Two can cast their ballot at the Buffalo Narrows Friendship Centre and the La Loche Friendship Centre.
