Smudge walk and candlelight vigil planned this afternoon for victims and survivors of residential schools
A smudge walk and candlelight vigil will be held Monday to honour children of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation and survivors of residential schools.
The event is being hosted by Men of the North and the walk from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band office to the urban reserve in downtown La Ronge will start at 4 p.m. It’s specifically being held to remember the 215 children buried on the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
The walk begins today at 4 p.m. at the band office. (Men of the North)The children, some as young as three, were students at the school, which was once the largest in Canada’s residential school system.
