Northside’s Mr. T continues to expand services

Jul 6, 2021 | 10:15 AM

If you’ve ever travelled north on Hwy 2 into lake country, chances are you’ve stopped along the way at one of Laurie Thorsen’s businesses including a gas bar, convenience store, restaurant and liquor store. Now the long-time Northside resident is adding a cannabis store to the mix.

“We wanted to expand our services, so customers don’t have to stop in the hustle and bustle of the city on their way to the lake,” said Thorsen. “That first stop should be the best stop and if we can do that by providing even more things our customers need and want, we’re happy to do it.”

Thorsen first purchased the old BA gas station in the mid 1970’s. He sold and bought back the property four times and that’s why its now called Full Circle Restaurant, Convenience Store and Gas Bar. After adding the full confectionary and restaurant in the ‘80’s, he also renovated the bar in 2020 now known as Mr. T’s Pub & Offsale. Three yeas ago he added a liquor store – Mr. T’s Liquor Store. His newest addition, Log Cabin Cannabis, is expected to be up and running in July.

“Whether you need regular or premium fuel, grocery and liquor staples, a home-cooked meal or quality cannabis products, you’ll be greeted with a smile,” he said. “In terms of access to the surrounding area, we are second to none. Everything is right off the highway.”

Thorsen is actively recruiting employees for his new endeavour which he expects to be a popular stop for those heading into the Lakeland area. Some of the latest statistics show Canadian cannabis sales at $309.7 million in April 2021, an increase of 73.6 per cent year over year.

“We recognized an opening in the market and took the opportunity to expand our economic footprint on the area. In addition to providing these new services, we’ll also look to offer employment opportunities to local residents,” explained Thorsen.
