Manhunt leads to arrest after increased police presence Sunday

La Ronge RCMP have arrested a man who was wanted because of two separate incidents.

On the evening of July 18, there was an increased police presence in Fairchild as officers worked to locate the individual.

According to an RCMP press release, local officers, in collaboration with the RCMP Emergency Response Team and RCMP Police Dog Services, arrested Samson Roberts, 21, on Sunday around 11:30 p.m. after he ran into a wooded area. He was located at a nearby residence.

Roberts was wanted in relation to an incident July 8 at approximately 7:40 p.m. La Ronge RCMP responded to complaint of a rollover on Highway 165, which an investigation determined there were three occupants in the vehicle. Two left the scene, including the adult male, before police arrived and were not located.

A firearm was later recovered at the scene and the remaining occupant were treated for minor injuries.

In the above investigation, Roberts was charged with possession of a firearm, being an occupant of a vehicle with a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, transport of a firearm in a careless manner, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, operate a conveyance while prohibited and two counts of breach of probation.

Earlier on May 3 at approximately 5:30 a.m., La Ronge RCMP responded to a complaint of a firearm discharged at a residence on Bells Point Road. As a result of extensive investigation by officers, Roberts was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life, unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order and two counts of possession of ammunition contrary to order.

Roberts will appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on July 22 at 9:30 a.m. La Ronge RCMP wishes to thank Lac La Ronge Indian Band community members for their assistance Sunday while the investigation and arrest was unfolding.
