Two arrested, charged following drug seizure in Buffalo Narrows

Buffalo Narrows RCMP have arrested and charged two individuals with multiple offences, including drug trafficking and weapons charges.

Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Cubby Street in Buffalo Narrows Monday evening, resulting in the seizure of 136 grams of crack cocaine and the arrest of two occupants, 39 year-old Bernel McLeod and 59 year-old Kimberly McLeod of Buffalo Narrows. They also seized prescription drugs, drug trafficking paraphernalia, a number of weapons and two pellet guns that replicate handguns. Cst. Sandra Lapointe said this was an important arrest, given the items seized and that they were after Bernel for a long time.

“We’ve had him as a target for at least a year now,” she said.

Lapointe said it’s also a significant seizure for the detachment, getting both drugs and weapons off the streets.

“Especially in this community, because we’ve been having a lot of issues with cocaine,” she said.

Lapointe added that they still have work to do on that issue.

Both indivudals are each charged with:

  • Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • One count of trafficking
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime less than or equal to $5,000
  • Two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Three counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
  • One count of unlicensed possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition

Bernel McLeod appeared in court earlier today and was remanded until August 3. Kimberly McLeod will appear in court on August 11.
