Flagpoles to be installed outside village office

Jul 23, 2021 | 12:38 PM

Five new flagpoles will be installed in Air Ronge near the village office.

That’s according to Mayor Julie Baschuk, who explained the flags that will be raised will represent Canada, Saskatchewan, Treaty 6, Métis Nation and the fifth will be rotational. The fifth will include a flag representing the village, which is yet to be developed, as well as if there’s a proclamation month such as Pride Month.

“Inside the council chambers, we are also going to be adding three more poles, so we will have five inside as well,” she said. “The difference of the flags in the inside is we will have the Truth and Reconciliation flag be a permanent addition within council chambers.”

The cost of the project has yet to be finalized as a contractor is working on a quote for the development. Baschuk would like to see the poles installed within a month or so.

“I think that our council recognizes the importance of having those flags visible and what they represent to different community members in our region, and it’s something that our council has supported and agreed and is willing to devote the funds to make it happen,” she said.

There are also some dates Air Ronge residents should keep in mind. On Sept. 8, there will be a community barbecue, followed by Movie in the Park on Sept. 11. A community public meeting has also been scheduled for Nov. 15.
