La Ronge Regional Fire Department announces fire ban
The La Ronge Regional Fire Department is implementing a fire ban in the Town of La Ronge, Northern Village of Air Ronge and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band due to extreme heat and wildfire risks.
The ban will be enforced as of 4 p.m. on Aug. 1 and will be in effect until there is significant precipitation.
According to a media release, the fire ban includes all open fires. However, traditional smokers, propane barbecues, propane fueled fire pits and briquettes are allowed. Active burn permits are suspended until the ban is lifted and violaters of the ban will be invoiced for fire department responses.
“This ban has been issued to ensure the risk of any wildfire within the tri-communities is eliminated as much as possible. This is due to the extreme heat, extreme fire index ratings and no precipitation forecasted in the near future,” as stated in the release.
