La Ronge councillor passes away, funeral scheduled for Friday

La Ronge councillor and businessman Hugh Watt has died. He was 58.

“Hugh Albert Watt was a man of many things, he was a business owner, a family man, a friend and a mentor,” reads a memorial published Tuesday. “He had a zest for life that few can compare to. He worked hard, and played harder. His life was taken too soon doing what he loved in a lake that he loved more. He was a man of multiple lives but unfortunately mother nature won this round.”

Watt was born Nov. 6, 1962 in Simcoe, Ont. and moved to La Ronge in 1977. He is survived by wife, Dorla and two daughters, Janelle (Mason) and Lindsay.

Watt is remembered as a committed husband, father and devoted community member. He loved travel, pushing the limits and was committed to finding something he was truly afraid of.

“He will be missed by family members, friends, politicians, protégées, bandits, and adversaries,” the memorial states.

Watt was in his second term on La Ronge town council, having been first elected in October 2016.

A funeral service will be held Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at La Ronge’s Mel Hegland Uniplex. Family and friends wishing to send online condolences are welcome to visit www.beaulacfuneralhome.com.
