COVID self-testing kits now available to general public in La Ronge
Rapid self-testing kits for COVID-19 are now available in La Ronge for public use.
Communities throughout Saskatchewan began receiving the testing kits last week, but the initial list provided by the Ministry of Health didn’t include any locations in the North. The kits can be picked up at the COVID testing site at 1103 Poirier Street from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. The public should call 1-306-425-2125 when they arrive for a kit.
According to the Ministry of Health, self-testing kits are safe, easy to use and provide results within 15 minutes. Self-tests only take a few seconds to collect a sample using a swab that goes into the soft part of each nostril.
With an increased delivery of test kits to the province, the Saskatchewan Health Authority expanded delivery to make a supply available to the general public to support asymptomatic COVID-19 surveillance. The province believes routine, voluntary testing at home will help prevent asymptomatic transmission to those who are not able to be vaccinated and will reduce COVID-19 transmission in the community.
