Pacey wants to address homelessness issue in La Ronge if elected to council

Robert Pacey Sr., who is running in the La Ronge municipal by election set for Nov. 30, believes the single most pressing issue right now is finding a solution to the town’s homelessness problem.

“Hopefully, we can help them out and get the agencies in this community working together for helping them out,” he said. “I know they need help, but I’m not sure exactly how we can all do that. If we put our minds together, I’m sure we can come up with something in the tri-community in partnerships.”

Pacey moved to La Ronge more than three decades ago, raised a family and is currently employed as an aircraft maintenance engineer. He also worked as a fire lieutenant in town, and he holds a Level Two Professional Fire Services certificate and a Level One Fire Services Instructor certificate.

If elected to council, other issues Pacey would like to work on is improving local infrastructure, attracting more business and promoting La Ronge as a tourism destination. Specifically to infrastructure, he said council should be upgrading watermains, fire hydrants and the wastewater treatment plant.

“I think they are trying,” Pacey said of the current council. “There are some old people on there and some new faces on there. I think maybe we need to look at the money and fiscally balancing stuff. There’s maybe some stuff I wouldn’t have spent a bunch of money at the moment.”

Pacey is proud to be from La Ronge and now that he’s semi-retired, he spends his time working with his small home-based business or with the Commissionaires when he’s not at the airport. He would also like to find a way to get residents more involved with service clubs, as well as start a new club like Scouts Canada or a similar organization.

Pacey has also been the chairperson of the La Ronge Regional Housing Authority for 17 of his 22 years of service with the group.

“I still help out if someone asks me to do something,” he said about volunteering. “I donate to long-term care, seniors, the library and the Ice Wolves. I like to support the community groups.”

Other areas Pacey would like to find solutions and form partnerships to improve are crime, vandalism and addictions.
