UPDATE: Medicine Hat police have confirmed Emily Bird was located safe and sound.

A woman with ties to Prince Albert and Montreal Lake Cree Nation has been reported missing in Medicine Hat.

According to a statement from police, Emily Bird, 37, was last seen on Dec. 4, at approximately 3 a.m. Her sister Kayla spoke to her last Wednesday and told paNOW her sister had not expressed any problems.

“It’s totally strange. She’s never done this before,” she said.

Emily’s mother Valerie Bird concurred, telling paNOW she has no idea what may have happened to her daughter.

“I have barely slept… having crazy thoughts, getting worried more and more,” she said.

Valerie said her daughter has five children, ranging in age from six to 17 years old.

In 2018, Emily and her husband moved from Prince Albert to Medicine Hat. That same year, both received medals for bravery from the Saskatchewan Lt. Governor.

In July 2017, Derrick Boyer and Emily Bird came to the rescue of a man who was stabbed and left for dead inside a burning home.

They were out for a walk in Prince Albert when they heard a commotion coming from a house before witnessing a male running away from the house. The pair decided to get a closer look and found a 20-year-old man lying on the floor of the living room covered in blood.

He was lying beside two couches that were burning fiercely and flames were moving rapidly to the home’s wood-paneled walls. The victim was unconscious so Boyer and Bird dragged him from the house and called 911 as the fire quickly engulfed the house.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he eventually recovered from his wounds.

Anyone with information about Bird’s current whereabouts is asked to call the Medicine Hat Police Service at 403-529-8481.
