Chamber of Commerce invites public to Christmas tree lighting and festivities

Dec 6, 2021 | 4:54 PM

December is known as the darkest time of the year, but the La Ronge and District Chamber of Commerce is looking to make the days a bit brighter with A Kick off to Christmas Tree Lighting Extravaganza.

Tri-community residents are welcome to the free event in Patterson Park this Wednesday at 6 p.m. It’s being held in partnership with several local groups including the Town of La Ronge, which constructed an ice skating path and provided decorations, as well as La Ronge Regional Fire Department members who will be supervising a bonfire with hotdogs and hot chocolate.

The Ice Wolves will be in attendance to skate with kids and Northlands College is providing a sound system and music. There will also be a visit by Santa and the tree will be lit at 6:30 p.m.

“We’ve done it for a few years now,” chamber president Matthew Klassen said. “I think three or four times we’ve done it. Last year, we were unable to do it because of pandemic reasons, but we are pretty excited to get back at it this year.”

Klassen explained the event is an opportunity to bring local families together, spread a little bit of Christmas cheer and mark the start of the holiday.

From Dec. 5 to 20, tri-community residents can also enter the Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Lights and Snow Sculpture contest. To participate, send a photo of your outdoor lights on your home or a snow sculpture to laclarongechamber@gmail.com with contact information and an address.

Everyone who enters will have their name submitted in a draw for $500 worth of prizes. All pictures will be posted online, along with a map so residents know where to find the lights or sculpture.
