An access road linking Far Reserve to the former regional landfill has been closed.

That’s according to a Ministry of Government Relations spokesperson, who explained following major upgrades to the facility this summer, which included opening a new and significantly improved access road off of Highway 2, the Ministry of Government Relations made the decision to close the road as it was no longer needed to provide access to the facility or any other Northern Saskatchewan Administration District (NSAD) properties.

“Ministry of Government Relations officials consulted local stakeholders throughout the decision-making process, including the Lac La Ronge Regional Waste Management Corporation and leadership from Air Ronge, La Ronge and Lac La Ronge Indian Band,” a statement provided to larongeNOW noted.

It also mentioned culverts along the old roadway will be removed this summer. Culvert removal will be performed in consultation with the Water Security Agency to ensure drainage requirements are met.

A portion of the road lies within the NSAD and a portion is within lands administered by the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. The Ministry of Government Relations’ Northern Municipal Services branch is responsible for the portion of the road within the NSAD and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band is responsible for the portion of the road that passes through their lands.

“Any affected property owners with concerns are encouraged to reach out to the Ministry of Government Relations’ Northern Municipal Services branch at 1-306-425-4330 or 1-800-663-1555.
