Jan 13, 2022 | 4:31 PM

The RCMP have arrested a teenager in connection to the murder of Air Ronge resident Jennifer Hendry.

According to a media release on Jan. 13, the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested a male teen in connection to the investigation into the homicide. At this time, investigators do not believe the accused and victim knew one another.

“We are not seeking other suspects with regards to this investigation,” the release stated.

The teen, who is from the La Ronge RCMP detachment area, is charged with first-degree murder and robbery.

RCMP cannot name the teen or provide further details, including age, as it could identify him, which is prohibited under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The teen appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court and has been remanded into custody until his next appearance on Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m.

“Information received from community members was pivotal to this investigation,” Insp. Joshua Graham of the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit said. “This incident has left Jennifer’s loved ones — and the Air Ronge area — grieving. We’re grateful the community was willing to assist our investigators, who have been working tirelessly on this case and have now arrested and charged the person believed to be responsible.”

Saskatchewan RCMP’s La Ronge Detachment, Prince Albert General Investigation Section, Saskatoon General Investigation Section, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section, Technological Crimes Unit and Police Dog Service assisted in this investigation.

The individual in the photo/video released on Jan. 10 to assist this investigation has been identified.
