Winning streak continues for La Ronge Ice Wolves

Feb 3, 2022 | 2:00 PM

The La Ronge Ice Wolves are enjoying a five-game winning streak and are hoping to make it six this weekend in North Battleford.

The streak began Jan. 21 when the Ice Wolves won 4-1 against the Nipawin Hawks. They then won a second game against the Hawks the following night and proceed to rack up another three wins against the Melfort Mustangs and Flin Flon Bombers.

The Ice Wolves most recently played the Bombers Jan. 29 in La Ronge and won 4-1. Goals were made by Kole Christensson, Holden Knights, Jacob Visentini and Mkyllan Couture.

“We’re playing really solid, stingy defense and we’re scoring as well,” head coach Kevin Kaminski said. “The guys are believing in themselves, believing in the systems and everyone stepped up their game to get on this five-game winning streak.”

The Ice Wolves are currently ranked seventh out of 12 teams in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. They have 22 loses and 20 wins for a total of 43 points.

There are 16 regular games remaining for the Ice Wolves, including two rescheduled games in March against the Melfort Mustangs and Melville Millionaires. Kaminski explained the team’s defensive line is well prepared for the final few weeks and he’s hoping momentum from the winning streak will help move the team forward.

“Just keeping playing the same way we have been playing, bringing that high tempo intensity and stingy defense day in and day out,” he said. “The ultimate work ethic. Everybody has to have it.”

The next home game for the Ice Wolves is scheduled for Feb. 11 against the Melfort Mustangs.
