1,102 new cases of COVID-19 in weekly epi report

The province have reported 1,102 new cases of COVID-19 in the new weekly integrated epidemiology report.

This week’s report contains data recorded from Sunday, Feb. 20 to Saturday Feb. 26 and the hospitalizations data is a comparison from Wednesday, Feb. 23 to noon March 2.

There was also 44 new COVID-19 deaths, which was 19 per cent higher than in the last report. Eleven of those were in the north central region.

The government also reported 7,833 lab tests done in the province, which was 6.5 tests per 1,000 people. The amount of tests was 86 per cent of the number the previous week. They’re reporting just over one-eighth of the tests were positive. The test positivity was also slightly than in the last report.

There were also 506 new lineage results and of those variants of concern 100 per cent was Omicron.

In this report, 11 outbreaks were reported in long-term care and care home facilities.

Of those who are five years and older, 85.5 per cent received at least one dose of the vaccine and 80.3 per cent got both. Also, among those 18 years and older 50.7 per cent had received the booster vaccination.

During the week of Feb. 28 there were 62 Paxlovid prescriptions given and 216 monoclonal treatments administered. Paxlovid is only recommended for adults 18 or over who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are within five days of developing symptoms. The Monoclonal treatment is also for COVID-19 patients who’ve tested positive and are within seven days of developing symptoms.
