‘It was magical’: Youth Fine Arts Night showcases local talent

May 30, 2022 | 5:00 PM

Hundreds of people attended a Youth Fine Arts Night on Saturday at La Ronge’s Churchill Community High School.

It was hosted by the Tri-Community Dance Club and featured group members, musicians, as well as various submissions such as paintings, sculptures, drawings and other visual arts. Dancers with Prince Albert’s Performing Arts Warehouse were also in attendance.

“It was magical. It really was so wonderful,” dance club board member Genevieve Candelora said. “There was such a good energy there and everyone was so supportive of the little dancers who got to perform for the very first time. It was quite monumental because La Ronge hasn’t had ongoing dance classes that I’m aware of, so this was really special.”

Approximately 250 people attended and 80 performed. The club was able to raise $1,200 through donations at the door and by selling flowers.

Performing Arts Warehouse owner Jenna Trawin is an instructor for Tri-Community Dance Club as well, and Candelora said it was nice to have her and others in town for a performance.

“By inviting the Prince Albert dancers, we have been able to really get that sense and visualize the direction that our local club is able to go as we continue to grow and expand,” she said. “It just really was so wonderful. I have heard nothing but positive things about the event.”

The dance club will also performing June 4 and 5 at EA Rawlinson Centre, June 26 for La Ronge’s Pride Festival and the Napatak Ramble on July 1 and 2.
