Jun 2, 2022 | 5:04 PM

The La Ronge Regional Fire Department remains on the scene of a bush fire near Bell’s Point Elementary School.

The fire department is being assisted by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency. Ground crews are reportedly making good progress as of 4:15 p.m.

The public is asked to stay away from the area. Airdrops have occurred throughout the afternoon and fire retardant has been utilized.

According to Lac La Ronge Indian Band chief Tammy Cook-Searson, the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre is being set up for the residents that have been asked to leave their homes as a precaution. She noted fuel management through the Fire Smart Program was helpful with the current forest fire situation.
